John M. McCoy, Jr. As A Child -
Son of John M. McCoy and Sarah Elizabeth Abell.
He was born in 1863 in Cotton Hill Twp., Sangamon, IL.
His father died in the same year. He was grandson to
Hamilton McCoy and Maria Lewis. He later moved to
Taylorville, Christian, IL and lived with his grandparents,
Julia Ann Barger and Dr. John Rice Abell.

Alfred Lewis and Eliza Jane Abell - Alfred was son of Samuel Lewis and Sarah Floro,
early settlers in Sangamon County.He was also the brother of Maria Lewis, wife of Hamilton McCoy. Alfred was
born March 26, 1823 in St. Francis Co., MO. He died on August 22, 1898 in Taylorville, Christian, IL. He is
buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, Christian, IL. Alfred's wife, Eliza Jane Abell was a sister to
John M. McCoy Sr.'s wife, Sarah Elizabeth Abell. They were both daughters of Dr. John Rice Abell and
Julia Ann Barger (Abells and Bargers were early settlers in Sangamon Co.) Eliza Jane Abell was born
October 28, 1832 in Cooper Twp., Sangamon, IL and died February 20, 1908 in Taylorville, Christian, IL.
She is also buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, Christian, IL.
 
Willard Fillmore McCoy (as a young man, left and as an adult) - Willard was the son of
John M. McCoy, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Abell. He was born in November 1861 and
died August 14, 1920 in Jacksonville, Morgan, IL. He was a Springfield resident
but died in a hospital in Jacksonville. Willard was married first to Mima Elizabeth Jones
(daughter of Solomon Jones and Margaret Ann Moore). Mima was born May 31, 1862 in
London, Laurel, KY and died in the tuberculois epidemic in Springfield on December 16, 1903.
Both Willard and Mima are buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, Sangamon, IL.
Willard Fillmore McCoy married a second time after Mima died. All of his children
were through Mima but his second wife did most of the raising of the children.
His second wife was Mary Winslow. She was born June 6, 1858 in Springfield. She died
February 28, 1939 in Springfield Hospital, Springfield. She is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery,
Taylorville, Christian, IL. She was daughter of William P.J. Winslow and Margaret Fleming.
Her father William was born July 9, 1828 in Bevedere, NC. Her mother was born
January 6, 1840 in Vandalia, Fayette, IL. Both her parents are buried in Oak Hill
Cemetery.
