BAKER, Isaac - Born the 6th August 1758 in Fredericktown, MD; Died Sep 1848; Buried Rochester Cemetery, Sangamon County; In Baltimore MD 1787 he married Phoebe WADDELL. She died 3 Jul 1845 south of Rochester. Isaac came to IL in 1828, settling in Rochester Township. He rode in a parade through Springfield in a log cabin drawn by thirty-two yoke of oxen, when he was over 80 years old. This was during the Harris campaign; He served as a Private, was a Fifer from MD unit during last two years of the war; He received a pension for MD service, residing in Springfield at the time and at which time it was suspended during the Act of June 7, 1832; His name is inscribed on a marker in the south mall of the Old State Capitol in Springfield which was put there by the Springfield Chapter of DAR and SAR in 1911. BRANDT, Reuben - According to DAR records, Reuben is buried in the Crowder Cemetery, Springfield, Sangamon County.
BROADWELL, Moses - Moses was born 14 Nov 1764 in Elizabethtown, NJ and died 10 Apr 1827. He is buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield with a Government headstone which was placed there by the Springfield Chapter of the DAR. His spouse was Jane Broadwell, who was born 6 Feb 1767 and died 8 Mar 1836. They were married 5 Nov 1788 and then moved to Hamilton County, OH. They had 12 children, three whom died young. He settled near Pleasant Plains , Sangamon County in 1820; He served from NJ as a Private, joining when quite young, with the Third NJ Regiment under Col. Elias Dayton in 1780. His name in inscribed on a plaque in the south mall of the Old State Capitol, which was placed there by the Springfield Chapter of the DAR in 1911. BRYAN, George - Was born 15 Feb 1758 in Rowan Co., NC; He died 22 Nov 1845 and is buried in Old Harmony Cemetery, Woodside Township, Sangamon County. He was first married to Elizabeth Ragan; 2nd to Cassandra Wright Miller. He resided with his parents in VA and from there to KY in 1781 being with Daniel Boone. He came to Sangamon County in 1834. He served as a Private and a Spy with NC Militia. He helped defend the Fort, against the Indians, which was named in his honor and called Bryant's Station in what is now Fayette Co. KY. He married one of the young Indian maidens, Elizabeth Ragan, in 1781. His name is on the plaque on the south mall of the Old State Captiol in Springfield. See 1876 Early Settlers of Sangamon County, IL, page 154.
BURTON, John - was born in Mecklenburg, County, VA in 1761. He died in 1839 and is buried in McDevitt Cemetery, Chatham Twp., Sangamon County. He served as a Private with the VA Continentals. He enlised for three months in Capt Asa Oliver's Company in 1780 and also in Col. Charles Fleming's Regiment and then again in 1781 in Capt Stephen A. Berry's company of VA troops. He served at the seige of Yorktown. He was on the pension roll for Sangamon County on 3 May 1834, age 72. His name is on the bronze plaque on the south mall of the Old State Capitol. See 1876 Early Settlers of Sangamon County, page 163, for a possible family connection.
CAMPBELL, Enos - He was born in 1753 either in Scotland or Trenton, NJ; died 2 June 1838 and is buried in Old Sackett Cemetery, Salisbury Twp., Sangamon County. He was married to Damarius Nowe in NJ and moved to Uniontown, Fayette Co., PA, where they had nine children and then removed in 1806 to Butler Co. OH where one child was born. The family came to Sangamon County in the fall of 1835 in what is now Gardner Township. Enos was a Scotchman. He removed from PA to OH and then to Sangamon County in 1835, settling in Gardner Township. He served as a Private in NJ, enlisting for six years in Capt. William Helm's Company of Col. Israel Shriver's 2nd NJ Regiment when he was 17 years old. He received a pension. His name is on the bronze plaque on the south mall of the Old State Capitol in Springfield, placed there by the DAR and SAR, Springfield Chapter. They also placed a bronze marker on his grave in 1973. See 1876 Early Settlers of Sangamon County, IL, page 170.
CARVER, Christian - Was born 1759 in Northampton Co., PA and Died 14 Mar 1836; He is buried in Carver Cemetery, Clear Lake Township, Sangamon County. He married first Magdalina Ziegler and second Mary Ziegler. He served with the NC Continental Troops, entering the service in Surry County for three months in 1777 in Capt Henry Smith's Company and for three months in Capt. John Crouse's Company. He was on the Pension Roll 23 Apr 1833, Sangamon County, age 74. See 1876 Early Settlers of Sangamon County, IL for a possible connection to a Jacob Carver (his son?)
CASSADY/CASSITY, William - William is buried in Rochester Township, Sangamon County. His name is on the plaque on the south mall of the Old State Captiol in Springfield by Springfield Chapter of the DAR in 1911. The spelling CASSADY came from the publication Soldiers of the American Revolution buried in IL by the ILSGS. I have been informed the spelling on the old tombstone is CASSITY and that perhaps he was in the War of 1812? This tombstone is difficult to read because of age. Above publication refers to DAR, NSDAR and Widow's pension records as their source. So one needs to really check this one out!
CLARK, Bazel or Barzilla - Was born 1750 in PA and died 23 Sep 1840 in Sangamon County. Is buried in Old Sackett Cemetery, Salisbury Township, Sangamon County. He married Nancy Wells in 1773 and came to Sangamon County in 1821, settling in Salisbury Townshp. He served with the PA Militia as a Private from Washington County, PA. They had seven children. Nancy died 19 Apr 1843 in Sangamon County. Refer to the 1876 Early Settlers of Sangamon County, page 201.
CLIFFORD, MICHAEL
- was born 1759 in NJ and died 1835 in Sangamon County. He was married to an Elizabeth.
He served as a Private with the NC Continental Troops, enlisting in 1775, and serving till the end of the war.
He was in Capt. John Johnson's Co., Col. Francis Locke's Regiment; was in the battle of Pedee River, and
the expedition against the Cherokees in TN.
He received a Bounty Land Warrant.
He received a pension from NC service and his wife Elizabeth received a widow's pension. Michael was on the
1835 Pension Roll in Sangamon County, age 74.
His name is on a marker on the south mall of the Old State Capitol in Springfield.
COOLEY, Jabez - Was born 1729 at Springfield, Massachusetts and died about 1800 at Springfield, IL ( this couldn't be right as Springfield wasn't organized until much later, Sangamon County in 1821). He is buried in Sangamon County. He was married to Abigail Hancock. He served in 1775 in Capt. Gideon Burt's Company of Col. Timothy Danielson's regiment
CROWDER, PHILIP
- was born 7 Apr 1760 near Petersburg, VA ( 1876 Sangamon history has May 1759?)
Died February 1844 and is buried in Crowder
Cemetery, west of Springfield, Sangamon County, IL.
Philip was married three times, #1 to Susan Parish in Petersburg, VA; They had five children. They migrated to Greene County, KY.
Susan died in 1794 in KY; and there he married #2 to Rachel Saunders, who had one child and died. He then married #3 to Sally Chandler and they came
to Sangamon County IL arriving in Nov 1830, settling 3 1/2 miles southwest of Springfield.
He served from VA as a Sgt. He served for an elder brother with a family who was drafted. He was present at
the surrender of Cornwallis. He was on the Pension Roll of 23 Apr 1833 in Sangamon County, age 73 and in 1840
, age 80. His name is on the bronze marker on the south mall of the Old State Capitol. (See 1876 Early Settlers of
Sangamon County, IL, page 237.
DAVIS, AQUILLA
- was born in 1756 in St. Mary's County, MD and died 15 Aug 1831 (1876 History states he died
23 Aug 1832) in Elkhart, Logan County, IL where his wife also passed away 23 Jan 1833. He
is buried in Wolf Creek Cemetery, near Sherman in Sangamon County.
He resided in Farquier County VA where he married
Isabella Briggs. They had six children in VA. They then went to KY where two more children were born. He then migrated to IL in 1820, settling near Elkhart
which was then Sangamon County, he removed
to Fancy Creek Township, Sangamon County and then back to Elkhart.
He served as a Private in
the VA Continental Troops, enlisting 19 mar 781 under Lt. Robert Craddock and Lt. Luke Cannon, in Col.
Thomas Pose's Regiment. He received a pension from VA service and was on the IL Pension Roll
in Sangamon County, 29 June 1824. His name is on the plaque at the Old State Capitol in Springfield. See 1876

- Was born 1758 in Northampton County, PA and died 3 Sept 1836. He is buried in the Dingman Family
Cemetery, very east edge of Riverton, Sangamon County, IL
He resided in Niantic Twp., Macon Co. IL for a
period of time, but returned to Riverton in Sangamon County where he owned considerable amount of land. He died
near Riverton. He was associated with the Long Point
Church south of Niantic.
He served as a soldier from PA, enlisting in 1778 in Northampton County in Capt. John Van Etten's 4th Co., Col.
Jacob Strouds' Regiment, 6th Battalion. His name is on the bronze plaque at the Old State Capitol
in Springfield.
FISK, Robert
- was born 1758 and died 19 April 1824. He is buried in Golconda, Sangamon
County, IL. (Could this be Golconda in Pope County? Reference for Sangamon is ISGS's publication of RW Soldiers buried in IL)
He married Elizabeth Jones who received a widow's penson at Ripley County, IN 4 Mar 1831
at $120 a year.
He seved as a Sgt. from Massachussetts,, possibly enlisting in 1775 at Lexington,
Mass, where he resided. He was a Minute Man in Regiment commanded by Col. John Greaton. He later
enlisted for the entire war; was a Sgt in Capt Joshua Walker's Co.,Col. David Green's Regiment. He served
eight years and one month.
He received a pension in Pope County, IL 8 June 1819 and was on the Pope County Pension Roll of 1819 while
in Sangamon County. He was married to Elizabeth. His name in on the plaque at the Old State Capitol
in Springfield.
FOSTER, NATHANIEL
- Was born 23 June 1761 in NJ and died 14 Sept 1837 in Sangamon County where he is buried. He married Nancy Mauzy.
He served as a Private in VA, enlisting in Aug 1779 and served under Capt Hugh Brent, of Col. Garrard's Regiment, enlisted again in Oct 1780, serving five months
under Capt. John Brent, Col. Williams and Col. Lucas. He received a pension.
HAGGARD, JAMES
- Was born 1759 in Albemarle County, VA and died 2 Aug 1843. He is buried in Gardner Township, Sangamon
County IL. He was married to Elizabeth Gentry.

- Died in 1832 and is probably buried in Sangamon County. He was a soldier from VA, enlisting

HARRISON, Ezekiel
- Was born 6 Oct 1752 in Rockingham, VA and died 17 Apr 1836 (Early Settlers 1876 History says he died about 1835) Buried in Harrison Cemetery, near Salisbury, Sangamon County, IL.
He was married to Sarah Bryan who was born 31 Jul 1753 in the Rockingham, VA and died in Sangamon County
6 June 1845. They were married in Rockingham, VA
in 1775, having nine children born in VA. They first emigrated to Christian Co. KY about 1816, near Hopkinsville.
They came to IL in 1822 with their three sons and one daughter, settling
in Cartwright Township, Sangamon County. Harrisonburg VA was named for his father Thomas Harrison, the founder.
JAMES, Thomas
- Died 2 Nov 1833 and is buried at Rochester, Sangamon County. He was a soldier from PA.
JONES, WILLIAM
- Was born 13 Mar 1744 in Dansbury, Buck Co. PA and died in Sangamon County. He was residing in Sangamon
in 1834. He served from NJ where he enlisted in Sussex County for one year in Capt. John B. Scott's Co.; he served
five months in 1775 in Capt John Seward's Company, Col. Ephraim Martin's Regiment. He was a "waiting
man' for Gen. Putnam and was in the battle of White Plains. He received a pension from NJ service, residing in
Springfield when pension claim suspended "for proof of service".
KELLY (KELLEY), HENRY
- was born 1742 Rutherford County, NC and
died 13 June 1832, age 90. He is buried at Kelley Cemetery, Sangamon
County, IL (two miles north of Curran). His grave is marked by the
Springfield Chapter of the DAR. He was married to Mary Whiteside who was
born 1756 and died 1840 at Polk Co. MO. They had children: John; Elisha;
George W.; William; Elijah; Eleanor; Sally and Mary. He came to IL about
1819.
He enlisted in 1775, served as a Corporal in NC and served under
Capt. Augustin Spain's Co., Second Regiment and in Col. Samuel Jarvis'
First Regiment, NC troops. Fought under General Greene at the Battle of
Guilford Court House. His name is on a bronze plaque on the south mall
of the Old State Capitol in Springfield. See the 1876 Powers Early

LOCKRIDGE, JOHN
- was born about 1761 in Augusta Co. VA (Early Settlers has birth about 1758) and died 1848, age 87. He is buried at Chatham Cemetery, Sangamon
Co., IL. He served as a soldier in VA, enlisting early in the war, about 1775, and was in the battles of Guilford Courthouse and Cowpens.
He came to IL in 1835, from Montgomery Co. KY, with four sons and four daughters, settling in Ball Township.
MASSIE, THOMAS
- was born 26 Dec 1759 in Albemarle Co., VA and died 19 Aug 1835. He is buried in Old Salem Cemetery (
or Morgan Cemetery), Curran, Sangamon County, IL; He married #1, Fannie Hudson; #2 Rebecca Collyer who died 5
Sept 1835 in Sangamon County.
He served as a Private with the Virginia Continental troops,
enlisting from Albemarle County, VA in 1780 and 1781 in Capt. John Henderson's Co., Col. John Lindsey's Regiment.
He received a pension from VA service and is listed on the IL Pension Roll, Sangamon County, 2 May 1833, age 77.
His name is on the marker at the Old State Captiol in Springfield. He was an early land owner in Sangamon County,
having purchased 80 acres in Gardner Township, Section 22, 25 Nov 1831.
He served as a Private in the VA Continental Troops and was a soldier in the VA line of troops. He was
wounded at the battle fo Point Pleasant. He is listed on the IL Pension Roll of Sangamon County, 2 May 1833, age
83. Sarah drew a widow's pension. His name is on the marker at the Old State Capitol in Springfield.

He received a pension for his service and was on the IL Pension Roll, Sangamon County, 1 June 1840, age 79
residing with William Lockridge. His name is on the plaque on the south mall of the Old State Capitol in Springfield.

War and was personally acquainted with Simon Kenton and Daniel Boone. He received a pension and
was on the IL Pension List, Sangamon County 23 Apr 1834, age 74.

MAXEY (MAXCY), JOEL - was born in Rockingham County, VA about 1759 and died 27 Dec 1844 (Early Settlers Sangamon County History, 1876, has death date as 27 Dec 1827, which is obviously in error as he was on the pension rolls after that date) He is buried in Old Salem Cemetery, north of Riddle Hill, Sangamon County, IL. He was married #1 to Susan Hill in Prince Edward County, VA. Her maiden name was DAVIS. She had been previously married with five children, #2 to Betsey Ann Howard. He resided after the war in Warren County, KY and from there to Sangamon County, his wife having died there in 1812. He served as a Private with the VA line as in the battle of Guilford Court House. He remembers seeing Generals Marion; Morgan, DeKalb and Gates. He received a pension, being on the 1835 IL Pension Roll of Sangamon County 14 Aug 1833, age 72 and on the Pension Roll, Sangamon County, 1 June 1840, age 78. His widow Betsey Ann received a widow's pension. His name is on the plaque at t he Old State Capitol in Springfield. See the 1876 Early Settlers of Sangamon County, IL, page 484.
MCDANIEL, LUANN (McDONNELL/MCCONNELL) - died 11 Jan 1850 and is buried in Mechanicsburg Cemetery, Sangamon County IL. She was married to Robert McDaniel, born 1757 and died 4 Jul 1826 and is buried in Bracken County, KY and was a Revolutionary soldier as a Private from NC. Luann Served as a nurse at Valley Forge. (See 1876 Early Settlers of Sangamon County, IL for possible family connections). Reference in ISGS publication Rev. War Soldiers buried in IL, states the Sgt. Caleb Hopkisn Chapter of the DAR of Springfield marked this grave in June 1975.
MILLER, CHRISTIAN - died 14 Sep 1842 in Sangamon County and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Buckhart, Sangamon County, IL. According 1876 Early Settlers of Sangamon County, page 528, a Christian Miller was born 12 Jan 1771 in Loudon County, VA. He was married to Sarah Neer who was born 28 June 1786 in the same county. They were married in 1807 in Loudon County. They removed to Champaign Co. OH, then to IL in the Alton area, then to Sangamon County in 1835. He entered 2,100 acres of land at the mouth of the Buckhart Creek in what is now Cooper and Rochester Twps. They resided in Cooper Twp. His wife died 20 Aug 1864 in Sangamon County.
MILLINGTON, PETER - was born in Vermont 6 Jul 1737 and was married in Boston, Mass in 1759 to Henrietta Boulden. She died within two years. He married #2 Mehetible Glass. He served as a Captain in the Rev. army and accompanied Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold on their expedition into Canada. He was taken prisoner at Quebec and remained there until the end of the war. He died in 1839, his widow died the same year, both in Sangamon County and he is buried in Zion Cemetery, Cotton Hill Twp., Sangamon County. His name in on the bronze plaque at the Old State Capitol in Springfield.
OVERSTREET, John - was a Private, Revolutionary War. Born 16 Jan 1760 in Bedford County, Virginia; Died 1848 Athens, Menard County, Illinois; buried in Menard County, IL; Applied for Pension for RW and War of 1812 service while in Lawrence Co., OH 9 Aug 1820 and again on 19 June 1827 when residing in what was then Sangamon County and is now Menard County, IL He enlisted Sep 1775 in the lst VA Regiment for 1 year. He reenlisted Jan 1777 for three years in the 14th VA Regiment. He fought in the battles of Brandywine, Germantown, Monmoth and the seige of York. He was honorably discharge in Jan 1780. He resided in VA; OH and IL

OWSLEY, THOMAS - was born 1731 and died 1 Nov 1796. He is buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, Sangamon County, IL his body being removed from Owsley Plantation Crab Orchard, KY. He served as a Private with a VA unit.
PEAKE, JOHN - was born 28 Dec 1756 in Fairfax County, VA and died 21 Dec 1841. He is buried in Old Salisbury Cemetery, Sangamon County, IL; He was not married. He served as a soldier from VA, enlisting for six months and served the 5th Troop of lst Regiment of Light Dragoons of VA in Capt. Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee's Company, serving until Apr 1777. He enlisted in Sep 1777 for three months in Capt. Benjamin Harrison's 113th Regiment, commanded by Major Martin Pickett. He received a pension in KY in 1833. He served has a Capt. In the Civil Service of NC. He was with the Cavalry. He received a pension. His grave is marked by the Springfield Chapter of the DAR & SAR, 19 Oct 1911.
PULLIAM (PULLEN/PULLIN), GEORGE - was buried in Cumberland Cemetery, Ball Township, Sangamon County, IL. He was married to Nancy. He served with the VA Continental Troops. He received a tract of land in Sangamon County, as a Bounty Land Warrant. His widow received a pension.
PURVIANCE (PURVINES), JOHN - was born 19 June 1760 at Lancaster County, PA and died 27 Sept 1833. He is buried at Richland Baptist Cemetery, Pleasant Plains, Sangamon County, IL. He was married #1 to Nancy Ferguson, who was born June 1763 Prince George County, VA and died 11 July 1796, Cabarrus County, NC. They were married 10 Jul 1783 in Mecklenburg County, NC. He was married #2 to Elizabeth Lisenby who was born 12 Dec 1761 in Wales and died 23 Mar 1832 in Sangamon County. They were married 27 Dec 1798 Cabarrus County, NC.
John Purviance resided in PA and from there to Mecklenburg county NC in 1765. He then move to Jackson County, TN for one year and then to Madison (later Sangamon) County, IL in 1820. He served as a Private with NC and SC. He enlisted in NC in 1779 in Capt. James White's Company, commanded by General Griffith Rutherford, serving three months. He was in the battle of Stony River. In 1780 he served in the Cavalry with Capt. William Penny for three months in battles and skirmishes of Lynch Creek and Rugby Mills. In July 1781 he enlisted in Capt. William Alexander's Company and served ten months, was at Kegaree River, Friday's Ferry, and Eutaw Springs. In Aug 1782 he enlisted in Capt. Robert Burns' Co., Col. William Davis Regiment. He was captured at Fort Orangeburg, SC.
He received a pension and was on the IL Pension Roll, Sangamon County 23 Oct 1833, age 71. His name is on the plaque at the Old State Capitol in Springfield. See 1876 Early Settlers of Sangamon County, page 586.
RALSTON, WILLIAM - was born 1759 in VA; died July 1835 in Sangamon County and is buried in Morgan Cemetery, Gardner Township, Sangamon County, IL. He lived in KY and in 1828 came to IL settling in Gardner Twp., Sangamon County. He served as a soldier in VA, enlisting in VA and was present at the surrender of Cornwallis. He was in the siege and capture of Yorktown. He was married in VA to Nancy McClure and soon after moved to Crab Orchard, KY and later to Mt. Sterling, Montgomery county in KY. They had twelve children. They moved to Sangamon County, IL arriving in 1818 on Spring Creek. He received a pension. His name is on the marker at the Old State Capitol in Springfield. See the 1876 Early Settlers of Sangamon County, page 591.
ROYAL, THOMAS, JR. - was born 27 Mar 1754 in Manchester, England and died Aug 1834. He is buried in Joe Brunk Cemetery, near Glenarm, Sangamon County, IL. He was married three times, #1 to Hannah Cooper; #2 to Rebecca Matthews; #3 to Mrs. Ellen Brunk.
He resided in Franklin County OH after the close of the War and moved from there to Ball Township, Sangamon County, IL in 1824. He served as a Private from PA, enlisting in Philadelphia. He received a pension. His name is on the bronze plaque at the Old State Capitol in Springfield. See 1876 Early Settlers of Sangamon County, page 630.

SHUTT, JACOB HENRY
- was born in July 1763 in PA, his parents dying when he was a child. Shutt served in the 5th PA Regiment from January to November 26, 1776 at Ft. Ticonderoga, NY. He re-enlisted in May 1777. His records are on file with the National Archives. He moved, as a young man to NC and was there married to Elizabeth Groves.They came to Auburn, Sangamon County in October 1829, along with seven children. He died in 1852, age 89, according to his tombstone inscriptions in Wimmer Cemetery, Auburn and the the 1876 Early Settlers of Sangamon County, page 657. STRINGFIELD, JOHN - was born 13 Feb 1762 in NC and died 5 Jan 1822. He is buried in Kern Cemetery, northeast of Springfield, Sangamon County, IL. He was married to Sarah Boydston. He came to Sangamon County in Dec 1821, but only lived nine days. He did Patriotic Service in NC and was in the battle of King's Mountain, 7 Oct 1780. His name is on the plaque at the Old State Capitol in Springfield.

This could be the Archibald Turner whose biography is in the 1876 Early Settlers of Sangamon County, IL, page 729-730, but no mention is made of RW service? The death month and year is the same, but the day is different.
