JOHN H. KENDALL, SR., was born February 28, 1824, in Nelson county, Kentucky. His father, Benjamin, was born July 3, 1797, in Nelson county, Kentucky. William Kendall, grandfather, emigrated from Virginia to Kentucky at an early day; died in Kentucky in 1835. Mrs. Kendall's maiden name was Matilda Hobbs, mother of John H., died September 4, 1867, in Illiopolis, Illinois. John H. Kendall spent his boyhood days in Kentucky, with his mother and followed farming. Emigrated to Mason county, Illinois, 1853, and remained there one year, and removed to Sangamon county, Illinois; was married to Miss Laura Brown, of Nelson county, Kentucky, October 1, 1848, to whom have been born four children, of whom three are living, viz: John H., Jr., born October 1, 1849; Alexander M., born October 1, 1849, (twins); George W., born June 26, 1851, died July 17, 1872; Burn H., born May 21, 1853. All the children born in nelson county, Kentucky. Mr. Kendall has followed farming in Illinois up to 1865, since which time he has carried on the livery business in Illiopolis, and has as few enemies as any man in Illiopolis.
